Initially I wasn't impressed by the animation, but the film's artistic and emotional merits very quickly had me overlooking that downside. The syncing with the music was a wonderful touch, and the bittersweet ending really hit home - not your grandpa's ending there. Probably my favorite bit was when you introduced the soldiers, standing cold outside the gate, then zoomed in on the eyes to show the fact that they were actually terrified. Never saw it coming, and it added so much.

Overall, fantastic work here.

I think this is now officially my favorite film on Newgrounds.
Snappy, well-defined, elegant animation with a boatload of style, a brilliant sci-fi vignette of a story, and so much atmosphere it's starting to spontaneously condense. Hell of a show you've put on here, mate. I'd love to see more of this, but that's the thing about flash fiction: more would break it. So leave it just like it is: perfect in its brevity.

That was beautiful and terribly sad at the same time; it literally left me in tears. I don't think I've ever seen a flash animation that hit me like this before, so... thank you.

Awesome, but for christ's sake, compress the video! One hundred thirty five megabytes for four minutes of video? Even on my internet, that's a little bit ridiculous.

@Scroler:
Hey, punk, before you go criticising other people's stuff, perhaps you should try to animate yourself.

Now that that's out of the way...

As usual, this was great :)
I've come to expect top-notch animation and brilliant, offbeat humor from your flashes, and as usual, I wasn't disappointed.

That... was the single... best... thing... I have ever seen.
Saw a trailer for this eons ago; never thought the real thing would actually see sunlight.
Christ, I'm happy I was wrong XD

The soundscape was absolutely AMAZING. That's plenty for me to give you four stars; most animators completely overlook the necessity of good SFX and music in maintaining atmosphere.

And then... well, the action was just... kind of... bland. As other reviewers have stated, individual scenes felt stretched; like the bit with the fireballs flying, the bit with Mario first in the plane. If you pared each of these lengthy sequences down by a second or so, the animation as a whole would feel much more snappy.

Not sure what I just watched, but I liked it.

I'm not sure why, but the moment when the tophat monster lands on the sandwitch and the music cuts, is the most unnerving thing in existance. Was true when I watched this a couple years back, and still true today.

That was FUCKING EPIC.
My favorite bit was when your character got back up after taking some hits from the other guy, releasing shockwaves that blasted away his surroundings.

spritefan responds:

Thank you man :D! Yeah, that was my favorite part as well. :P.

Tried animation, quickly learned it wasn't for me. So hey there, welcome to a writer's NG profile :) Message me if you're interested in a sample of my work, or my services, if I might be so bold.
